Breaking News: Dahn tenders resignation as Prime Minister’s office announces pregnancy

Asta Dahn, who has served as deputy for Samara (CH) since 2008, will stand aside as Prime Minister later today after her office announced she was pregnant with her second child. The statement followed a night of rumour and intrigue following a leaked report from the Niveri Palace that the Prime Minister was seen speaking to the President yesterday evening.

The Prime Minister has tendered her resignation following a statement released by her office in Karasicena this morning announcing that she is pregnant with her second child. Asta Dahn, 43, who has served as the country’s head of government since 2018 will quit less than two years after leading her party into its record fourth consecutive election victory. Her term will also be the second shortest, besting Maksim Obelschenko’s government by around 12 months. Dahn’s rise to the top job was meteoric, joining the government in 2011 having been appointed Education, Science and Healthcare minister by Ludvig Fedorov, before going on to serve as Foreign Minister, leader of her party and finally succeeding Mr Fedorov as Prime Minister. She will stand aside from that role later today as her time in office comes to an end following the announcement that she is pregnant for a second time. The resignation comes at a tumultuous time for the Prime Minister, facing a whirlwind of criticism of her handling of disparaging stories published by The Republic newspaper – sparking a political crisis between her administration, some of the country’s top businessmen and allies across the continent. Whilst her statement does not announce any succession plans, it is now expected top officials from the governing Centrist Progressive Conservative coalition will meet today to determine next steps. Acting First Deputy Prime Minister Krill Serbin, Foreign Minister Fabian Meyer and Finance chief Arnold Lippman are all thought to be in the running to replace the country’s second female prime minister.
