Kalandarshivilli Warns Sereniérre On Reform Conditions

The Finance Minister, Yevgeniy Kalandarshivilli, has hit back at media reports from Sereniérre, where nation has cast doubt as to guarantees over further reforms as part of a revised economic trade package between the two countries.

Kalandarshivilli, who has led the Polascianan delegation in talks with the Gallian nation, said that he believed further reassurances to embrace political as well as economic reforms had been needed and a ‘firm cast-iron commitment’ to these would be required before the new trade agreements could be signed.

The Sereniérre state has seen large-scale changes to its economic model since transitioning from a closed-economy, backed only by Belmonté, in the 1990s, but Polasciana has sought reassurance over potential visa and tax changes that have been debated nationally for some time. In particular, the country wants Sereniérre to drop legal clauses which prohibit the forward onward trade of exported goods.

The Finance Minister criticised the suggestion that Polasciana was attempting to force the government’s hand for better terms, and said that the Sereniérre government needed to add ‘backbone’ to its suggestions of reform for it to be a more ‘effective’ and ‘reliable’ trading partner.

Kalandarshivilli reportedly told the Sereniérre delegation that ‘warm words’ would not be enough for Polasciana to ‘sign on the dotted line’ and the country had other potential trading partners that wanted access to its growing market. The opposition Union Party however has criticised the government for stating its willingness to walk away, saying that the country needed “all the help it could get” as it faces a stagnating economy.
