Two of the biggest TV stars in the Republica del Sur will host GlobeFest™ 2020 later this year. Today, Idurre Núñez, a former supermodel who grew up in Bahía Blanca where the show will be held, was announced as the presenter of this year’s music contest alongside actor Rafael Álvarez. The pair will take over from Yonah Herzl and Bina Gadi who hosted last year’s acclaimed production in Elon’s second biggest city Bat Hadar and Choe Bahk Choi who hosted the final in Yaochang two years ago.
Núñez had long been rumoured as a potential host of the show, given her central role in advertising the country’s bid to host the 2020 edition, as well as previous attempts for both the 2016 and 2018 shows. Losing out to Marlborough and Yaochang respectively, the arrival of Globe Fest to Republica del Sur’s shores has been long trailed, with the country also finally winning the show in 2017 in Thionville with the song ‘This is Me’ after several close results. World Media Commission Administrator Liza Ford said in a statement that the announcement showed “the dedication of ¡vida! [the country’s main television network and host broadcaster] to producing a fantastic show in December”, and that preparations are “going well”.
The show will take place at the Palazzo Citadel Hall, one of the largest exhibition and arena spaces in the country, which resides on the outskirts of Bahía Blanca around 60km from Las Cruces, the capital, of which Bahía Blanca itself comprises around 20% of the metropolitan area. The decision to host the show in the suburb was taken after a previous bid with Santa Monica, around 200km to the south, failed to win over the World Media Commission due to its relatively ageing transport network. Some 29,000 people are thought to be able to attend each show – significantly more than were able to attend last year in Bat Hadar’s Eli Sham Arena, but down on the size of the show two year’s ago hosted in Yaochang.
Further details of arrangements being made by the host broadcaster will be announced at the end of the summer. The 2021 edition was announced as taking place in Tours, Montelimar earlier in the year.
