President Artamova’s Federal Council leader Ivan Tattar said that the President expects his key Education Bill to have ‘teething problems’ at its first reading in the lower house later today.
The bill, which scraps individual state mandates for education policy, disbands the Education Authority Alliance and replaces it with a federally adopted ‘national curriculum’ has divided national opinion.
“The President knows we will have issues with the bill in the lower house, as the Centrists remain ideologically opposed to a federal education policy, but these are teething problems – it’s the right thing to do for our country.”
The Government faces a rebellion of up to 50 of its members in the Federal Assembly, after agreeing to support the President’s bill.
A bill that comes from the Council requires a 50% majority in the Lower House and a 75% majority in the upper house to be adopted as legislation.
