The Foreign Minister, Marina Yanaka, has criticised Polasciana’s regional neighbours for what she describes as “escalating” potential conflict in Boliatur.
The eastern Sarvarian nation, which borders Kadikistan, has been labeled a ‘failing’ nationstate by other countries including Polasciana’s neighbour Uttania, after it has struggled for many years since gaining independence from Belmonté. Now, there is concern that the country could tip into a civil war, with some of its diverse regions considering breaking away. Already, thousands of refugees have left after a deal was signed with Villesen.
Speaking in an interview earlier today on an Eiffelland news network, Yanaka said she believed that the crisis however was a “war of words”; “Look, you’ve a country with an unstable government – I’m not sure a war of words works when you’ve got a trigger happy international community.” When questioned if she would support military action by the international community to keep the Boli state in tact, Ms Yanaka said, “We’re calling for calm. I think in any situation where tension is this high, where we have armed forces ready to leave, we have to ask ourselves – truly – what the threat we are facing is.”
In the same interview Yanaka went on to condemn recent terrorist attacks in Eiffelland and speak about a number of other issues, but ultimately said that any conflict in Boliatur had to be ‘about the people of Boliatur.’ “Regime change won’t stabilise the situation if we don’t consider the impact on the people of Boliatur. Countries like Kashtan and Kadikistan will have to be ready, primarily, as regional neighbours. We would obviously want to support the international community if it goes with this. For now, we need to look at what will actually help.”
