Yevcimir Governor Lars Arevin and Polascianan National Sporting Chief Marim Kyane joined officials from the World Games Committee yesterday in Trafalgar, Kelssek for the official announcement that Polasciana will host the 2028 Winter Series.
For the games, Ukhyny’s National Sporting Complex will host the majority of ice events, alongside Niveri’s Indoor Sports Palace. The Uttan Brezúga resort will meanwhile be the site for ski competitions. Uttania’s Pregny International will offer an almost direct connection to all three event clusters, and will formally mark the first time Polasciana hosts the international sporting festival – after the 2008 edition was cancelled.
Yevcimir is thought to have won over Committee members with its compact plan, and experience in hosting major events. While it has never hosted a World Games competition, Brezúga has now held national, regional and international championship legs, and become an increasingly favoured ski destination by Gallian tourists – particularly for what is considered its reliable annual snowfall increasing the quality of its slopes. Niveri’s role in the games will be more prominent than was planned in 2008, when its historic role in warfare with Polasciana’s neighbours and different ethnic groups was considered an unhelpful reminder of the country’s past as it was trying to project a new image onto the global stage.
Arevin, who was also Governor in 2008, said he was “overjoyed” that the region would play host to the World Games for the first time, and complemented the Polascianan Sports Association for its work in successfully bidding for the opportunity. Speaking at the official launch he said that the games were “a great moment for Yevcimir, but also Polasciana”. “We have waited a long time, but we are so excited to finally now be able to welcome the world to our great state and wonderful country.” He added that “Yevcimir 2028 will be the best stage yet for international winter sport and we cannot wait to see everyone in a few years time.”
The World Games Committee said that “all necessary guarantees” had been provided by both the Yevcimir state and Polascianan authorities and that a full presentation on plans for the event would be given during this year’s games in Pirané, Republica del Sur, in November.
