In an interview this morning the leader of the United Nationalist Democrats, Tymur Rubin, suggested that his party could lend direct support to the Centrist government if it comes under pressure in the build up to the presidential election campaign.
Stating that he felt ‘political stability’ was more important than the campaign, Rubin is believed to be hinting that his own chances in the presidential contest are less than currently expected, where the UND leader is being spoken about as a likely contender.
The party has already contributed to a number of government bills and secured a number of votes for Gruaman’s government.
The suggestion provoked a sharp response from the opposition, with former Prime Minister Maksim Obelchenko describing the situation as ‘bizarre and contradictory’. He went on to cast doubt that any such arrangement would be stable.
