The League can’t be allowed to stop us cleaning up our own country

Alexei Sukhorukov is the Leader of the Nationalist Party, serving as deputy for Chudniv and a former Deputy Prime Minister of Polasciana under Koruin Gruaman’s premiership from 2008-2011

Whilst serving as Deputy Prime Minister I saw first hand how Asta Dahn and Krill Serbin deal with a crisis; they blame it on someone else. The problem they have this time is it is a disaster of their own making. Now, faced with anger here at home and criticism abroad, they have backed themselves into a corner and are desperate for a way out. But backing down to bullies in your own country or those across the continent is absolutely no choice at all.

I warned that joining the Gallian and Centrican League would prove to be the wrong decision for the people. More than that, I fought it. Every step of the way. Yet adamant she was right, the Prime Minister signed away her right to govern to bureaucrats sat in Threveburg and Trier. Now, just a few months after joining the League, the PM is facing ejection from a bloc which is angry she dare decide to prosecute a criminal in her own country. Whether it is Dmitri Trediakovsky, Uri Damisci or any other multi-millionaire, they have been robbing our government blind for too long. I say good on the Prime Minister for trying to clean up their act, but it is no surprise to me she will not find allies in our neighbours or in government. They want access to our resources and our strategic position on the edge of Gallia, but we must warn ourselves: they are not our friends.

This row has nothing to do with comments published in newspaper columns. The Prime Minister knows it. Mr Trediakovsky knows it. The Gallian League knows it. This is a war about who owns and who runs our country. Who has the power to decide what happens and what our future looks like. And too many people don’t want that to be our elected politicians. They didn’t want me to be elected president, they don’t want Ms Dahn to be prime minister. Because we dare stand up to those who think they are in charge. I never thought I would side with the Prime Minister and this government, but on this – they are right.

The Prime Minister and her acting deputy need to face down those calling on them to change course. They need to keep their nerve. If the consequence is to leave the Gallian League, or to see criminals leave our shores then we are all the better for it. The government needs to see that the upsides of holding firm are evident in their own right. Now is the time to reclaim our country – and the Nationalists stand with the government in making that happen. We should all hope they succeed.
