Ulanov Slams Centrist U-Turn On Defence

The Union Party’s acting leader said today in the lower-house that the Polascianan people would ‘see through the cynicism’ of the Centrists, as the Prime Minister announced they would formally reconsider their proposal to lower defence spending.

‘They come to this house claiming we were irresponsible in government,’ said Lazar Ulanov, ‘without a single credible policy to turn our economy around – the hypocrisy of this government is laid bare for all to see.’ The government had suggested before the election that it would take military spending back to the levels of 2007, almost halving the amount of money the country would spend on military defence. Prime Minister Gruaman suggested the government had been ‘convinced’ to keep levels consistent by the Commander of the Armed Forces ‘prior’ to the Lierland conflict with the Gallian Defence Federation.
