An ally close to President Lukyanov has mistakenly released plans to reporters earlier in the week regarding the 2011 Presidential Elections.
Dmitry Nikolaevsky, a close advisor to the President, informed journalists that the President would present a new ‘Elections Bill’ to the Federal Assembly next week including plans a new run-off vote, to prevent scenes such in 2008 where no candidate secures over 50% of the final vote.
Mr Nikolaevsky also reportedly leaked that President Lukyanov intends to set the election date for October 23rd, prompting speculation that the Union Party could hold a presidential primary race over the summer should the President stand down as has widely been rumoured.
