Arrests As Overnight Protests Turn To Violence

Authorities in Arvi arrested nearly 100 protesters last night as an overnight demonstration aimed at the government erupted into violence. Led by the populist ‘Freedom Front’ Sar unity movement, hundreds of young activists began to smash windows of buildings around the city square. The director of the security services in the region suggested that the police had ‘no choice’ but to detain a number of violent protesters. The attack on the government is being staged in Polasciana‘s biggest city which organisers are today calling the ‘true heart’ of the nation – in direct reference to the official capital, Karasicena. But the First Deputy Prime Minister hit back at protesters this morning in an interview with national newspaper ‘Khreschatyk’ in which she echoed the Prime Minister’s comments yesterday. Ms Yanaka suggested that the ‘Front’ do not represent the ‘vast majority of Sar people’ who respect peace and humility.
